The Royal Steam Flour Mill operated in the late 1800s and has recently been beautifully restored to its heyday. Make sure you stop by this prominent building in the Dongara town site, which is clearly visible from the Brand Highway as you enter the town. It stands four storey's high and is built of local limestone.
The mill is included in the well trodden Dongara Heritage Trail, which is a fascinating walk trail incorporating a number of historically important buildings. Collect a copy of the trail map from the Old Police Station which has been converted into the town's tourist centre. Along the way you will see the Priory Lodge, Russ Cottage and the Church of St John the Baptist.
The Royal Steam Flour Mill is in Dongara, which is a four hour drive north of Perth.
Dongara is famous for its cray fishing and wildflowers. In spring the region is covered with a variety of flowers including the everlastings which photograph beautifully and are a spectacular sight to see.
